Q: I emailed five therapists and nobody answered. Is that normal?
A: Unfortunately yes, and it's not about you. The mechanics: most therapists are solo practices with no front desk — inquiry email is answered between sessions or not at all; full practices often leave directory listings → up anyway; and secret-shopper studies of insurance directories have found large fractions of listed providers unreachable or not accepting patients. The fix is volume plus a reply-able message. Contact 8–10 at once (this is polite, not greedy — everyone in this market understands), and make the message answerable in ten seconds: what you're coming in for (one line), your insurance or budget, your availability, and one direct question — "Are you taking new clients at [X availability]?"
Worked example: "Hi — looking for help with anxiety, I have Anthem PPO or can pay ~$120, free weekday evenings. Are you taking new clients? — Sam, 555-0100." That gets answers. "Hi, are you accepting patients? I have a lot going on…" often doesn't.
Do this: the full 5-day method → sequences this. No replies inside your insurance network? That silence is legally your plan's problem — the 10-day rule → makes them produce someone.
