California clinical trials · registry checked August 28, 2026

A study is a question, not a treatment promise.

This desk names the drug, condition, phase, California city and exact federal record. It also tells you when a study is observational, invitation-only or not a treatment study at all.

Registry records checked August 28, 2026. Status can change between checks. Licensed-prescriber and California legal review are pending; no review badge is claimed.

Read this first

“Recruiting” describes the record. It does not say you qualify.

ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry, not a booking service and not FDA approval. A sponsor enters the record. A local site may be recruiting while another site in the same study is not. The study team—not this site—decides eligibility after screening.

A trial contact is never a crisis service. If you may act on suicidal thoughts, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency department.

The snapshot

40 California records, sorted by what they actually do.

The scope is deliberately narrower than every study that mentions ketamine: ordinary anesthesia and pain-control trials are excluded. 18 active records closed to enrollment and 1 suspended record appear separately below.

Use the registry desk

Start with the question—not the drug’s reputation.

Every “official record” link opens ClinicalTrials.gov. These filters narrow records to read. They do not screen your diagnosis, medicines, health history, exclusions or the local site’s actual capacity.

40 records shown

Age stays in this browser tab. It is not sent or saved. A matching posted range is not a finding that you qualify. When you choose a region, other listed locations are hidden; each visible location keeps its own posted status—or says when none was posted.

An honest zero

No California treatment route appeared in this snapshot.

Ayahuasca

No recruiting or not-yet-recruiting California treatment study appeared in the intervention search used for this snapshot.

Mescaline

No recruiting or not-yet-recruiting California treatment study appeared in the intervention search used for this snapshot.

5-MeO-DMT

One California observational combination record was active but not recruiting; no recruiting California treatment study appeared in this snapshot.

This is a result of a dated registry search, not proof that research does not exist elsewhere or that the result will remain zero. Ayahuasca, mescaline and 5-MeO-DMT are not FDA-approved mental-health treatments, and this dated official-source review identified no statewide California licensed-treatment system for them.

Before you volunteer

Ask the questions the headline leaves out.

  1. Which part of the eligibility rules fits me?A diagnosis alone rarely qualifies someone.
  2. Is the California site itself recruiting? The overall study and the local site can have different statuses.
  3. What could I receive?Ask about placebo, comparator, dose, randomization and masking.
  4. What must I stop or change first?Do not change medication from a webpage; ask the study and your own prescriber.
  5. How many visits and how much travel?Screening, dosing and follow-up may happen on different days.
  6. What costs, payment or compensation apply?A study can cover research procedures without covering ordinary medical care.
  7. Who handles a medical or psychiatric emergency?Get the onsite and after-hours plan before consent.

If you need care rather than research

Do not wait for a study to become treatment.

Depression, PTSD, OCD and substance-use disorders already have established care routes. A trial can be a research choice for someone who qualifies; it is not the price of receiving help now.

Sources and method

The registry record is the source of status—not the study advertisement.

  1. ClinicalTrials.gov, API v2 and each linked NCT study record. 40 open, coming or invitation-only records, 18 active records closed to enrollment, and 1 suspended record were queried and human-checked August 28, 2026.
  2. ClinicalTrials.gov, protocol registration definitions: recruiting, not yet recruiting, enrolling by invitation, and active not recruiting.
  3. ClinicalTrials.gov, How to Read a Study Record: sponsor-entered status, study contacts, locations, eligibility and update dates.
  4. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Psychedelic Drugs: Considerations for Clinical Investigations, final guidance, July 2026.
  5. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Development and Approval Process: research stages and what FDA approval means.
  6. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, access to investigational drugs: clinical trials and expanded-access routes are distinct.
  7. Drug Enforcement Administration, Hallucinogens Drug Fact Sheet, 2024 edition: federal controlled-substance status and risks.
  8. Governor of California, SB 58 veto message, October 7, 2023: the statewide decriminalization proposal did not become law.

Educational information, not medical advice, legal advice, research recruitment, a recommendation to enroll, or a claim that a study will accept you. Registry and posted eligibility ranges checked August 28, 2026. A weekly automated watch checks every curated record and unions two high-recall ClinicalTrials.gov searches; new or changed records open an editorial review item and never publish themselves. Next full human review is due November 26, 2026. Licensed-prescriber and California legal review pending. Paid for by participating therapists. Inclusion is computed, never purchased. No ads. No data sold.
