The Bay Area is not one mental-health market.
Crossing a bridge can change the county door. Crossing a plan can change who must find the appointment. Start with the system you are actually in.
What is stopping care today?
Make the insurer find the appointment.
For many California-regulated plans, the clock is 10 business days. Use the words that turn a directory failure into a documented access request.
→02I have Medi-CalUse the county and the plan as two doors.
Every Bay Area county has its own specialty system and its own managed-care arrangement. Start with the county page that matches your address.
→03I will pay myselfGet the whole price in writing.
There is no defensible Bay Area average yet. Ask for the recurring fee, intake, cancellation policy, and a good faith estimate.
→04I am a studentUse the campus layer before buying care twice.
The rules differ sharply by school: some visits are prepaid, some are brief, and some hand longer care to insurance.
→05This cannot waitChoose crisis help deliberately.
988, county mobile response, urgent clinics, and 911 do different things. See the choices before making the call when you can.
→06I am comparing ketamine clinicsInspect the offer before the room.
Separate Spravato, off-label psychiatric use of FDA-approved ketamine injection, and compounded products that are not FDA-approved; then verify the prescriber, monitoring, pharmacy, and whole-course price.

→Your county is part of the answer.
These numbers are read from each county's own page and dated. Some are access lines; some are crisis lines. The label matters.
Every row links to a county page carrying the official source URL and any important second number. Sonoma is included here because this page uses the standard nine-county Bay Area, even though its landscape belongs to the North Coast.
A provider list is not an appointment.
Call the plan and ask it to locate a clinician who can actually see you. For many California-regulated plans, a non-urgent appointment with a non-physician mental-health provider must be available within 10 business days, with stated exceptions.
Use the call script →A regional average is not your price.
Ask for the amount that applies to you: your plan's copay and deductible, or the provider's written self-pay estimate. TherapyCalifornia will publish local medians only after enough current, verified profiles exist.
Use the Oakland low-cost map →No therapist listings. No fabricated local averages.
The private directory is still being built. A therapist profile will appear only after the licence, fee, and opening can be checked. Until then, this page is useful for what already exists: county systems, insurance rights, campus care, and decisions you can make now.
