The short answer: UC Law San Francisco—formerly UC Hastings—points eligible faculty and staff to the UC employee medical plans. In 2026, the Health Net choice is UC Blue & Gold HMO. Routine in-network therapy does not need a primary-care referral. Visits 1–3 cost $0; visit 4 and later cost $30. The Health Net Behavioral Health line is 800-663-9355.¹²

The searchable directory at the top of this page turns Health Net's official Blue & Gold data into a practical call list. Search a name, specialty, ZIP or neighborhood, practice, language, population, visit-format clue, or directory-listed gender. Every result has a tap-to-call button, a map, and a copyable verification script.

The original dated files remain available as backups:

These are candidate lists, not 3,146 confirmed appointment openings. Every row had Health Net's open-panel code and a current directory address on August 30, 2026. A street address does not prove that the therapist is seeing people there in person. Every row says “call the office” in the in-person field. Large group practices can also put many clinicians at one office address.

First, make sure this is your plan

UC Law SF is the current name of the school formerly called UC Hastings. This page is for employees and faculty, not students. The student UC SHIP plan is different.

UC Law SF's public benefits page links employees to UC's medical plans. It also says the school's listed benefits are its package “in its totality”; benefits on another UC campus may not apply here. The 2026 UC guide lists the UC Law SF Benefits Office at 415-565-4703.¹²

If your ID card says UC Blue & Gold HMO or shows Health Net as the carrier, use the Health Net route on this page. If your card says Kaiser, UC Care, or HealthSavings+, use that plan's behavioral-health administrator instead.

The four 2026 UC medical choices

Employees with Full or Mid-Level Benefits can choose from the UC plan range, subject to service-area and other plan rules. A Core Benefits package normally offers HealthSavings+ if the employee is eligible. Your appointment type, percent time, length of appointment, Medicare status, and union contract can change what is available. The final answer is in UCPath or from the UC Law SF Benefits Office.²

2026 plan Who runs mental health care Routine outpatient therapy Out-of-network therapy
UC Blue & Gold HMO Health Net Behavioral Health Visits 1–3: $0. Visit 4+: $30. No PCP referral for routine care. Not covered unless emergency or Health Net authorizes it. If the network cannot give timely, nearby care, ask Health Net to arrange out-of-network care at the in-network cost.
Kaiser HMO Kaiser and Optum First 3 in-network routine office or telemental visits: $0. Later visits: $30. Kaiser and Optum have separate rules and do not combine their care or cost records. Generally no coverage outside the network except emergency, urgent, or authorized care.
UC Care PPO Blue Shield of California, with Accolade help First 3 in-network visits: $0. Later visits: $30. Covered, but after the deductible you pay 50% of Blue Shield's allowed amount plus any balance bill. The extra balance does not count toward the deductible or out-of-pocket limit.
HealthSavings+ PPO Blue Shield of California, with Accolade help In network: you pay the deductible first, then 30% coinsurance. After the out-of-network deductible, you pay 50% of the allowed amount plus any balance bill.

All four include behavioral health in the medical premium. UC says a PCP referral is not needed for behavioral-health care, though some non-routine services need prior authorization.³

What the rest of each plan costs

  • UC Blue & Gold HMO: no deductible; $1,000 individual out-of-pocket maximum and $3,000 for a family of three or more. Medical office visits are generally $30.⁴
  • Kaiser HMO: no deductible; $1,500 individual out-of-pocket maximum and $3,000 for a family of two or more. Medical office visits are generally $30.⁵
  • UC Care PPO: UC Select has no deductible and uses copays. Blue Shield Tier 2 has a $500 individual or $1,000 family deductible, then 30% coinsurance. Out of network has a $750 individual or $1,750 family deductible, then 50% of the allowed amount plus balance billing.⁶
  • HealthSavings+ PPO: $2,500 individual or $5,000 family in-network deductible, then 30% coinsurance. UC contributes up to $750 to an individual HSA or $1,500 to a family HSA. The plan cannot be paired with a general-purpose Health FSA, and Medicare or other IRS rules can make someone ineligible.⁷

Ask the plan how the three-visit count resets and how visits already used will be counted if you change therapists.

2026 monthly employee premiums

These are UC's published standard faculty/staff contributions. Your actual amount can differ by location, employee group, and collective-bargaining agreement. UC says to use ALEX or sign in to UCPath for the amount that applies to you.⁸

A new employee usually has a 31-day Period of Initial Eligibility. Newly appointed faculty who miss the first 31 days get a second eligibility period tied to the start of classes or arrival on campus. If an eligible employee misses the enrollment window, UC describes a 90-day waiting route with after-tax premiums until the next January 1. Ask Benefits before relying on that fallback.²

What is different about Blue & Gold mental health care

The HMO rules for medical specialists are not the same as the therapy rules.

For medical care, Blue & Gold uses a custom UC network, a PCP, and a participating physician group. For behavioral health, the 2026 Evidence of Coverage says members may use all Health Net contracting behavioral-health providers. Routine outpatient therapy and medication-management visits do not need prior authorization or a PCP referral.⁹

That means the useful question is not:

“Does my UCSF medical group refer to this therapist?”

It is:

“Are you in the Health Net Behavioral Health network for the UC Blue & Gold HMO at this exact office, and are you taking new in-person patients?”

How to find and book a therapist

1. Use the exact network name

Open Health Net's provider directory. Enter your location. Select Blue and Gold HMO. Choose Behavioral Health, then Professionals. Health Net's own directory instructions use this route.¹⁰

Do not stop at “I take Health Net.” A practice can accept one Health Net product but not UC Blue & Gold behavioral health.

2. Choose a therapy license, not every behavioral-health role

For talk therapy, start with these directory specialties:

  • Marriage & Family Therapist
  • Social Worker, Clinical
  • Psychologist
  • Counselor

Clinical neuropsychologists are in the archive because the directory puts them in the professional therapy group, but many focus on testing rather than weekly therapy.

The broad Behavioral Health results also include psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, behavior analysts, nurses, and physician assistants. Those roles were not counted as therapists in our archive.

3. Filter for open panels, then verify the office

Use Accepting New Patients in the official directory. Then call the office. Ask all four questions:

“Are you in network for UC Blue & Gold HMO through Health Net Behavioral Health—not only another Health Net plan?”

“Are you accepting a new patient for individual therapy?”

“Are you seeing patients in person at [read the exact address]?”

“What would I pay for a routine therapy visit under this plan?”

Record the name of the person who answered, the date, and the answer. Network and panel data can change after this archive date.

4. Ask for a real appointment date

California's non-urgent behavioral-health standard is generally 10 business days for a non-physician mental-health provider. The Blue & Gold Evidence of Coverage gives the same 10-business-day standard. Urgent behavioral-health care is generally 48 hours when prior authorization is not needed and 96 hours when it is.⁹¹¹

Say:

“I am requesting a routine outpatient therapy appointment within 10 business days. Please note the date of this request.”

A callback or intake form is not the appointment. Ask for the actual date and time.

5. Call Health Net when the directory fails

Health Net Behavioral Health: 800-663-9355, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Pacific. Ask the representative to help place you, not just read the same directory.

“I called the listed therapists and could not get a timely in-person appointment. Please arrange an in-network appointment near my home or work. If the network cannot do that, I am requesting an out-of-network appointment at the in-network cost.”

The 2026 Evidence of Coverage says Health Net must arrange and cover out-of-network behavioral-health care at the in-network cost when it cannot arrange timely and geographically accessible in-network care. Keep the reference number.⁹

6. Escalate with your call log

If Health Net does not fix it, say “I want to file a grievance.” Include:

  • the first date you asked for care;
  • each therapist or practice called;
  • whether the record was wrong, the panel was closed, or the office was virtual-only;
  • the first appointment offered;
  • the Health Net reference number; and
  • the care you requested.

California's Department of Managed Health Care Help Center is 888-466-2219 and healthhelp.ca.gov. The regulator can review access and network problems.¹¹

The Bay Area and San Francisco archive

This is a snapshot of Health Net's own public directory on August 30, 2026. It covers the nine Bay Area counties and the five psychotherapy specialties above.

County Unique clinicians with at least one open-panel row Open-panel office rows
Alameda 147 151
Contra Costa 76 78
Marin 29 29
Napa 5 6
San Francisco 944 1,367
San Mateo 28 29
Santa Clara 1,862 1,877
Solano 16 16
Sonoma 66 71
Nine-county total 3,146 3,624

A clinician can have several office rows, so the two columns are not supposed to match. A clinician can also have more than one specialty label.

What each CSV row contains

Each row includes the clinician's name, directory specialty, California license data as shown by Health Net, NPI when supplied, practice, address, phone, telehealth flag, populations, Health Net's last-verified date, and the snapshot date.

The archive includes only locations that had:

  • a current eligible-for-display period;
  • a Bay Area county address;
  • one of the five psychotherapy specialty labels; and
  • current panel status O, which Health Net's interface displays as accepting new patients.

The archive excludes prescribers, behavior analysts, generic social-worker records not labeled clinical, and closed or existing-patient-only panels.

What the archive does not prove

It does not prove that:

  • the license is active today;
  • the provider still contracts with your exact plan;
  • the phone number is correct;
  • the provider has an appointment slot;
  • the listed address is where sessions happen; or
  • the provider is a fit for your needs.

Some directory records show license dates that appear old. Some group practices roster many clinicians at one address. Santa Clara's unusually large count is a warning to verify, not evidence that 1,862 in-person appointment slots exist.

Use the CSV as a call list. Verify licenses through the appropriate California licensing board and verify benefits with Health Net before the first visit.

How to get the shortest useful call list

Use the searchable San Francisco directory at the top of this page, then:

  1. Search a name, language, population, practice, or other word.
  2. Filter ZIP or neighborhood and therapist type.
  3. Use No virtual visit listed only as an in-person clue. It does not confirm that office sessions are offered.
  4. Tap Call, or copy the verification script before you dial.
  5. Ask for the actual first appointment date. Do not treat the A–Z order as a ranking.

No therapist paid to appear. The list is computed from the plan's directory fields, never from advertising, ratings, or membership.

Reviews and forum posts: useful clues, not plan facts

We do not reproduce or rank individual therapist reviews. Therapy reviews are hard to verify, can expose sensitive facts, and often say more about fit than clinical quality. The archive is based on structured network facts only.

For plan-level experience, these public posts are useful for questions to ask:

These are self-selected anecdotes. People had different employers, years, medical groups, and care needs. They cannot show today's network size, your cost, or whether one therapist is available. Use them to form questions; use the 2026 plan documents for answers.

Free help outside the medical plan

UC says each campus has a faculty and staff assistance program, often called an EAP, with free and confidential emotional-health resources regardless of enrollment in UC benefits. UC Law SF links its Employee Assistance Program inside its employee-only Sharknet site. Ask the Benefits Office what the current session limit is and whether sessions can be in person.¹³

EAP care is usually short term. It does not replace your Health Net benefit for ongoing weekly therapy.

Q&A

Q: Does UC Hastings offer Health Net to professors and staff? A: The school now called UC Law SF links eligible faculty and staff to the UC medical plans. UC Blue & Gold HMO is the Health Net option in 2026. Eligibility and represented-employee terms can differ, so confirm in UCPath or with the Benefits Office.

Q: Do I need my primary doctor to refer me to a Health Net therapist? A: No. UC and the Blue & Gold Evidence of Coverage say routine behavioral-health care does not need a PCP referral. Some higher levels of care and testing can need prior authorization.

Q: Does the San Francisco CSV contain only confirmed in-person therapists? A: No. It contains open-panel Health Net directory records with San Francisco street addresses. Health Net does not reliably state whether each clinician is currently seeing patients at that address. Call to confirm.

Q: Why are there more office rows than therapists? A: The same clinician can appear at several addresses. The archive keeps each office row because the address, phone, panel, and telehealth status can differ.

Q: What if a therapist was listed in network but Health Net later says otherwise? A: Save a dated screenshot or the archive row and call Health Net. Its directory warns that members should not be penalized when they relied on a provider shown as in network on the date of care. Ask Health Net to apply the in-network rate and file a grievance if needed.¹⁰

Q: Is the UC Law student health plan included? A: No. UC SHIP for students is a different plan with a different network and benefit booklet.
