Orange County is simpler than its neighbors, and that's the insider fact: it's a single-plan county. If you have Medi-Cal here, you almost certainly have CalOptima Health. One card, one member number, no plan-shopping confusion. Medi-Cal managed care has no copay for covered care. Share of Cost is different: if your eligibility notice lists it, ask what you must pay or owe before Medi-Cal pays.⁴

Door 1: CalOptima — for anxiety, depression, stress, grief

Call the CalOptima behavioral health line (number on the back of your card) and say:

"I'm requesting outpatient therapy. Please give me therapists taking new patients, and an appointment within 10 business days per the timely access standard."

The 10-business-day rule is law for Medi-Cal managed care.¹ If the deadline slides, say "grievance," then DMHC Help Center 1-888-466-2219.

Door 2: OC Links — (855) 625-4657 — for heavier needs, or when you're not sure

OC Links is the county Health Care Agency's navigation line.² Trained navigators — including clinicians — screen you and connect you directly to county specialty mental health programs. No referral needed. Say:

"I have Medi-Cal. I'd like a screening and a connection to ongoing therapy."

Under the state's No Wrong Door policy, OC Links and CalOptima can't ping-pong you: whichever you call must get you connected to the right lane, warm-handoff style.³

What happens next: screening questions (15–20 min) → OC Links links you live to the program (they stay on the line for the transfer — it's their signature move and the reason to call them over a general directory) → intake gets scheduled. If a program doesn't call back within a week, call OC Links again; repeat contacts are expected and tracked.
