Who can use it: "any currently enrolled CBU student (including in-person, online, and graduate students) in the state of California."¹ What it costs: "at no additional cost"; the intake FAQ puts it as "No cost to enrolled students."¹ ²
The limit that matters
Short-term therapy in sessions of "45-50 minutes" that "begin at the top of every hour"; no numerical cap is published.² This is the fact to confirm again at intake, because staffing and campus rules can change during the academic year.
If you need help today
"During business hours, students can walk in or call 951/343-5050."² After hours: CBU publishes no after-hours therapist line of its own. Use 988, or Riverside County's 24/7 Mental Health Urgent Care on 951-509-2499.³ CBU's emergency page also lists a 24-hour Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Helpline on 951-686-4357. (800-398-0018 is San Bernardino County's Community Crisis Mobile Unit, not Riverside's.) For a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.
Medication and longer-term therapy
Psychiatry: The current pages do not mention psychiatry or medication management. When campus care is too short: CBU's student mental health page lists county routes and outside resources; no page states that a case-management team arranges the referral, so ask who does.³

Before you spend money outside campus
Campus counseling and outside insurance are separate. Before booking an outside therapist, ask:
- Is this clinician in-network for my exact plan—not just the insurance company?
- What will I owe before and after my deductible?
- Does the plan require a campus referral or prior authorization?
- If the clinician is out-of-network, will they provide a superbill and where do I submit it?
If you use a parent’s plan, ask the insurer how to request confidential communications before the first claim. An explanation of benefits can otherwise show that care was used.
What to ask in the first appointment
- What is my individual-session limit this term or year, and does intake count?
- If I need weekly or specialized care, who starts the outside referral?
- Is psychiatry separate, and does it require a campus or insurance referral?
- What can I use while I am waiting: a group, same-day consultation, or virtual care?
- Will any charge or insurance explanation be sent to someone else?
