There is no official citywide table of private therapy prices in Sacramento. TherapyCalifornia does not have enough verified listings to publish one yet. Quoting a confident “average” would only decorate the uncertainty.
What you can get is more useful: a written estimate from a provider, a deadline from many health plans, and a county service whose job is to help sort the public route.
If you will pay cash, ask for the price in writing
Say: “I will not use insurance. Please send me a good faith estimate for weekly therapy, including every charge I should expect.”
Federal rules generally require this estimate when self-pay or uninsured care is scheduled at least three business days ahead, or when you ask for it. If one provider later bills at least $400 above that provider's estimate, you may qualify for a federal dispute process.¹
Ask whether the intake costs more, whether missed sessions are charged, and what twelve weekly visits would total. A session price by itself is not a treatment budget.
If you have insurance, start the clock
For many California-regulated plans, a non-urgent appointment with a non-physician mental health provider must be available within 10 business days, unless a clinician decides a longer wait will not harm you.² Call the number on your card and ask the plan—not a stale directory—to locate an available clinician.
Use the 10-day-right call script →, and keep the call reference number.
The Sacramento County door
Sacramento County says Behavioral Health Services–Screening and Coordination is its main entry point for mental health and substance-use services. Call (916) 875-1055 or toll-free (888) 881-4881. The line is open 24 hours a day; the program screens and connects people rather than providing treatment itself.³
What we can honestly promise today
Our therapist directory is not open. No live Sacramento fee median exists here yet. When profiles launch, prices will appear before contact and availability will be checked monthly. Placement will be computed, never purchased. Join the one-email opening list →
